In My Language

I saw this You Tube video sometime near the end of last year and it really affected my perspective about what autism really is and points out some of the arrogant beliefs that our society seems to express toward all people it feels “superior” to. This video helped me see the hidden biases I was operating from and enabled me to feel more compassion and have more patience with the way my children may communicate at times. Frankly, I think it’s a video everyone should watch.

Note: The first three minutes or so may be hard to watch if you have your own sensory issues. I remember really feeling like I just wanted to get up and leave at around 2 minutes and 30 seconds but I think that beginning part adds to the whole experience of the message so stick it out till the end. It’s worth it.
